Thomas Paul

Thomas Paul was first introduced to me through a good friend of mine Jen! I have fallen in love with their casual yet captivating style of fabric! And the best thing about it is that you can now purchase Thomas Paul Fabric through a retailer! Here are some of my favorites and a short biography of Thomas Paul.

Thomas Paul was born and raised in New York City. He got his start in the fashion business working as an intern at DKNY in the mid-nineties after graduating from New York's Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in textile design. While working as a colorist and designer for a silk mill specializing in neckwear and scarves, he worked on neckwear collections for such designers as Bill Blass, Calvin Klein, and DKNY. This eventually led to the creation of his own neckwear collection, the short-lived digities in the late 90's. From this was born the start of the thomaspaul pillow collection, launched in 2001, which was originally conceived of as an idea of utilizing the silk printing mill's capabilities for home accessories instead of personal accessories. Since then the line has steadily expanded into other categories apart from silk pillows to include tabletop, stationery, and lamp shades. The ultimate goal being to have products covering every aspect of the home, all with thomaspaul patterns gracing them.

Monarch

Well, today I had one of those moments when you just want to sigh "Ahh"- at a shop called Monarch. It opened a couple of years ago near my apartment and I have always been curious to go inside to see what it was all about. It had that chic look about it, but it's kind of out of the way so I just never went in. I have since gotten married and moved farther away but it is still on my way home from school. I was looking for eclectic stationery and since I didn't find any at T.J. Maxx or Marshall's I decided to finally stop in Monarch and take a look around. Oh my goodness! I could live in this place! It just has that certain appeal about it. Every item in the shop is eclectic, unique and just all around adorable and irresistable. They have a "round" canopy crib that I just love! I am thinking about taking pics and posting here on my blog because YOU would love it! From purses, to furniture, to candles, and bedding and anything else you can think of, it is like a small fairy land. When I walked in I just soaked up the smell, the slate tile floor, the quiet and serenity of the shop and wondered if there was anyone even there. Secondly, "How do these people make money?" I discovered the answer when I rounded the corner of the back of the shop. They do floral arrangements and beautiful arrangements at that! I guess the shop is just filler and back-drop for all of the floral arranging. Anyway, needless to say, I will definitely be going back and telling all my friends about Monarch.

Adorable wood bead garland...

At all those garage sales last week, I found this oh so cute wood garland! Not sure what I am going to do with it yet, but I'm sure I can find a place for something so chic. Along with that I found a really nice lamp for $5 and some other things as well.

I put my shop on vacation mode last night because I told my husband I just cannot keep up with working full time and all the orders that I have been getting. Well, that lasted until about 12:00PM today when I found a girl I work with that knows how to sew and is interested in working for me. Yea! My husband said he's not surprised my resolution only lasted that long and that that sounds just like me. He said, "I knew you wouldn't stick to that." :) What can I say? After one year of marriage, he knows me well. Anyway, I have to admit, I haven't actually MADE money yet on ETSY due to all the expenses etc. but I'm making my way up there. Don't get me wrong, I make tons of money, I just always end up using it for overhead or to buy more fabric. I'm a fabric junky! lol I really should lay off buying fabric and just finish all the pillows I already have cut out but not pieced together. Only one small sale today, but you never know what is ahead once I go to sleep. I just might wake up to a sale. :)
Goodnight

My garage sale FINDS!

I had two days off of school this week and decided to take advantage of all the 250 city-wide garage sales of St. John! I got some amazing finds! I also found a chair that I painted and re-upholstered today for my sewing room and it looks fantastic and adds so much to my little work room. Take a look!
